How is it made our Straw House

• All the materials that make up our house are natural, hypoallergenic and extremely environmentally friendly.
• The supporting structure was made with solid wooden pillars and wooden floors of Spruce.
• The walls have been brought up with the classic straw bales of the farmer, put in pressure so as to ensure a considerable compactness.
• The partitions were composed by a light structure of strips of wood, wattle coverage and filling in loose straw.

• Plasterwork interiors were made of clay, sand and a small percentage of "horse poop" to make the mixture more flexible; then painted with natural slaked lime, with a basis of clay pigments.
• External plasters were made of natural slaked lime and sand, imperceptibly protected with a veil of Marseille soap; in this case the color of the exterior of the house was built in "fresco" coloring the last water (used to "fratazzare") with the clay of our soil.
• The waterproofing of the bathrooms of the rooms has arisen thanks to a mixture of beeswax and pure essence of turpentine.
• In the plan of the rooms, the floor was made of Russian larch planks, sealed with linseed oil, beeswax and turpentine; the screed has been realized dry with a alternate layers of sand and wood fiber.
• The floors of the dining room and the shop were made with normal clay bricks. After having "bevelled" one by one (1200 bricks) first with flexible and then rasps carpenter, we have them placed on a hydraulic lime mortar. Once dried, they were waterproofed with raw linseed oil diluted with pure turpentine . The first hands very diluted...gradually less and less until it stops absorbing!
• We made the windows realizing by a local craftsman, who has delivered us them unfinished in order to be able to paint them by hand with colors made from linseed oil and orange terpene.
• All agritourism furniture pieces belong for decades to our family (for our working past: antique shop and seafood restaurant).
• The shop was decorated with furniture that belonged to an old grocery store in the nearby village of Carro.
  The strange fate meant that after a ten-year stay in our old Restaurant Martin Pescatore of Cavi Borgo... would return in their town of origin, to relive their identity of grocery store!
